Introduction to the mapping editor
The mapping editor is divided in two or three areas:
- On the left-hand side you will find the Input schema area which displays the tree structure and elements in your dataset. You can expand, and contract, the tree by clicking on theandsymbols.
- The Mapping area is displayed in the middle of your screen. This displays the schema that you are mapping to. You can expand or contract the tree by clicking on theandsymbols to see the elements, and theto see the attributes of each element.

The right-hand side of the screen is used to display the navigation area, information about an element or help. To reveal these, click on either
,
or
.



To view the information available about an element in your dataset click on the
next to the element name. The information area then displays:

- XPath: Xpath for the element
- Namespace: The XML namespace to which the element belongs
- Count: The number of times this element exists in your dataset
- Distinct Count: The number of unique values associated with this element
- Average Length: The average number of characters for this element
- Values: A browsable list of the values found in this element
The pane can be expanded by clicking
. The columns can also be expanded (hover your cursor over the column border and you will be offered the option to drag the border to increase or decrease the width).

Viewing the information available for an element is very helpful when assessing how to map the element.
To reveal information about an element in the schema that you are mapping to, click on the
. This will open the help panel and display any information for that element that is included with the schema.

Note: If you are unsure about the use of an element in the schema, please consult the support desk.
To reveal the Navigation area click on
, which is displayed at the top of your screen. When the Navigation area opens it will display the top-level elements or classes in the schema that you are mapping to. You can use this to navigate to the relevant section of the schema in the central mapping area simply by clicking on the element name on the left.

A set of bookmarks have been defined for the schema, which you can reveal by clicking on the
at the top of the Navigation Area (see below). Again, you can use these bookmarks to navigate to the relevant section of the schema in the central mapping area simply by clicking on the element name on the left.

By clicking on
you can see a list of any mandatory elements that you have not yet completed a mapping to.
