# Dataset statistics

Before starting a mapping, it can be very helpful to look at the statistics for your dataset. The statistics show:

* the names of all the elements in your dataset
* whether they have been used (the count)
* whether the values are distinct or not (elements with unique values have a count that matches the number of distinct values and are displayed in green)
* the average length (or number of characters) in an element

By clicking on the name of an element you can also view the data in this element.
